[British Jane's Defense Weekly reported on July 2, 2003] High-speed catamaran builder Incat has announced details of its new Bohai command and control ship concept (LCC(X)).
Although it is unclear which military user LCC(X) may be targeting, the concept has attracted the attention of the US Naval Force Transformation Office. However, the US Navy does not have a clear need for such ships.
Incat's LCC(X) is a fast multi-purpose marine vessel that adds a longer flight deck for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft operations. This allows the Naval Air Combat Team to dock the aircraft on these ships without having to centrally dock on a large conventional aircraft carrier.
The 112-meter-long LCC(X) allows for short-range and vertical take-off and landing (STOVL) aircraft operations, such as Lockheed Martin's F-35 "Joint Strike Fighter" and "Haicang" AV-8 Vertical Take off and land the plane.
The hangar under the LCC(X) deck can accommodate four F-35 short-range and vertical take-off and landing aircraft, as well as two fixed-wing unmanned combat aircraft. The hangar can also accommodate two medium-sized propellers and a tail-clamped helicopter depending on the load of the required aircraft. The slide facility installed at the bow allows for easy loading of aircraft loaded with weapons. All aircraft degrees can be unloaded through the deck by the stern crane at the port and starboard.
The LCC(X) has a payload of 1,000 tons, 350 beds on board and a deck dedicated to command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance electronics. The vehicle deck is capable of carrying general purpose wheeled vehicles and lightly armed vehicles as well as tracked vehicles. These devices are capable of loading and unloading through the stern ramp.
LCC (X) equipment can be configured according to user needs, but the most basic weapon configuration includes automatic short-range self-defense weapon systems, such as "dense array" or "Halram" system.
