· Ford and Daimler joint venture to develop fuel cells will be closed this summer

Beijing time on June 14th news, according to the Automotive News Network, Ford Motor said on Wednesday that both Ford and Daimler plan to carry out their own fuel cell technology development, the two companies are gradually shutting down the development of a car fuel cell Technology joint venture.
In response to a Reuters poll, Ford said that the automotive fuel cell partner company based in Burnaby, British Columbia, will close this summer.
Despite years of research and investment by major automakers and startups around the world, fuel cell powered vehicles remain a niche market in the global automotive market.
In addition to the cooperation between Ford and Daimler on fuel cell research and development, Honda and General Motors also cooperated in fuel cell development. In addition, Toyota Motor is not far behind, and is stepping up efforts to mass produce fuel cell stacks. Earlier this week, Ballard Power Systems Inc. of Canada extended its fuel cell development contract with Volkswagen's Audi division.
Ford Motor Company said it will use the supply base to develop fuel cell stacks within the company and shut down the automotive fuel cell partner company in the summer of 2018. But Ford also said that the two companies will continue to explore ways to jointly develop fuel cell stack modules.
Dieter Zetsche, chief executive of Daimler, said earlier this year that the company is shifting its focus to electric vehicles.
According to the website of the joint venture, the company employs about 200 people.
