Canada mine filling method mining column

The International Nickel Company Frude Stoby Mine is a steeply inclined deposit with an ore body thickness of 30 m and unstable ore surrounding rock. Before 1961, the pillars were recovered by the box pillar filling method. The pillars were mostly deformed and very unsafe. The original mine is 9.3m wide and the pillar width is 5.7m. After that, the mine and the pillar width are changed to 5m. The pillar is replaced by cement tailings and is cemented to the mining method. See the figure below. Safety and economic effects have improved, and labor productivity of mining workers has increased by 50% to 100%.
